In this article, we will discuss a recent enhancement made to the Job Plan Details BIRT report in Maximo. The goal of this fix was to display the long description of each job task directly below the standard description.
1. Modify the Open Script for the Task Data Set
The following SQL query was added to the open() method of the taskDataSet to retrieve the long description:
select jobtask.jptask, jobtask.description, jobtask.taskduration, jobtask.nestedjpnum, jobtask.metername, jobtask.owner, jobtask.ownergroup, ld.ldtext from jobtask left join longdescription ld on ld.ldownertable = 'JOBTASK' and ld.ldownercol = 'DESCRIPTION' and ld.ldkey = jobtask.jobtaskid where jobtask.jobplanid = " + rows[0]["jobplanid"] order by jobtask.jptask;
This query joins the LONGDESCRIPTION table to the JOBTASK table to fetch the extended description where applicable.
2. Update the Fetch Script
To include the long description in the dataset, the following line was added to the fetch() method:
ow["longdesc"] = tasksDataSet.getString("ldtext");
This ensures that the long description is available as longdesc in the taskDataSet.
3. Add the Long Description to the Report Layout
Once the longdesc field was available, it was dragged and dropped under the standard description field in the report layout.
4. Hide the Row if No Long Description Exists
To prevent displaying empty rows where no long description is present, the following visibility condition was applied to the row containing the long description:
(row["longdesc"] == null || row["longdesc"] == "")
This ensures that only tasks with long descriptions will display the additional field, keeping the report clean and readable.
